Cooney Dam Repairs

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS, Mont. -

The Cooney Dam will get nearly $260,000 for repairs. A $100,000 grant comes through a loan program of the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, which is dedicated to developing the state's renewable resources.

And the DNRS's water resources division and the Rock Creek Water Users Association also contributed $160,000 to the cause.

DNRC Director John Tubbs says the 75-year-old concrete dam is needlessly releasing a quarter of its water due to design and lack of instrumentation.

Tubbs says the dam provides irrigation for nearly 20,000 acres of farmland.
