FedEx Breaks Ground on New Facility

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS -

Fedex broke ground today on what will eventually be a brand new ground shipping facility.

Local and state officials helped to dig the first mounds of dirt at the site. Billings own facility is considered a small hub for the company, due to the city being well-placed between Denver, Minneapolis, and other major cities. But this particular facility will be featuring something which hasn't been done in other smaller-sized hubs before.

"This hub will be the first hub in the country that will be automated. It's actually a prototype and we're looking to be able to put it in some of our smaller areas that need a hub," said FedEx Ground's district managing director Patrick McCoy

The new site will replace the existing shipping facility already in the area and provide jobs for nearly 120 employees.

Construction is scheduled to be completed by September 2014.
