ACTON -

The largest drag strip in Big Sky Country is hosting its 10th Anniversary Race this weekend by awarding a $10,000 pay-out to race winners. Owner C.W. McCarthy says he's proud of the raceway's history.

"The track was built in 2003 and it opened up on Fourth of July weekend. So this is exactly the same weekend we opened up 10 years ago. And we're just trying to do something really special for the racers. Up the payouts, we did special trophies, a lot of spectators are coming out, just a really cool thing and were trying to get everyone excited," says McCarthy.

McCarthy says people like nine-year-old junior racer Payton Menholt, who has been racing for two years, has the opportunity to follow a family tradition of racing. 120 drivers showed up with their hot rods at the drag strip this weekend, making the anniversary a success.

Streets that run for several blocks, without a single street light. It is a dark reality many residents throughout the Magic City face when the sun goes down. Leo Robinson lives on Monad Rd., east of 24th Street. He said if street lights were placed on Monad, safety for everyone would improve. Terry Smith, City Traffic Engineer, said the city is more than willing to work with anyone, on any street, which lacks street lights.
