Symphony in the Park

BILLINGS -

The annual Symphony in the Park takes place this weekend.

The annual event attracts thousands of people every year. Billings Symphony Music Director Anne Harrigan says it's a great way to celebrate the summer and enjoy some music. And of course, kids are welcome. They can go to the Instrument Petting Zoo or even compete for a chance to conduct the orchestra onstage.

The Symphony in the Park is this Sunday at Pioneer Park. It kicks off at 4 p.m. with food and the Instrument Petting Zoo. The Billings Community Band plays at 5 p.m., followed by the Young Conductor's Contest at 6:45 p.m. And the Billings Symphony Orchestra plays at 7 p.m. It's free, but any donations will go towards the cost of the performance, and to the Explore Music! program.

Several counties in our area have issued fire restrictions. Yellowstone County has issued Stage One fire restriction, which limit campfires and smoking areas. Carbon County has moved on to Stage Two restrictions, which set limits on certain work that can be done during the hot hours of the day. Decisions like these aren't just made by the county, however. They actually take a lot of coordination between different agencies."We try to work very hard to coordinate that," says Carmen Thomason, wh...
