Bear Put Down Near Blue Creek

BILLINGS, Mont. -

Game officials had to put down a black bear Saturday morning after it was caught eating chickens in the Blue Creek area.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Game Wardens say the female bear climbed a fence into a chicken pen area near Secret Valley Drive and killed a number of birds. The female bear was around five feet, weighing from 150 to 200 pounds. Officials say it is not the same bear seen around the Blue Creek School in May. Montana FWP advises homeowners to bear-proof their property by removing anything that looks or smells like food.

    In court news, the man accused of killing Dusty Francis in Lame Deer in October 2016, is on trial Monday. According to court documents, Cary Alden allegedly "unlawfully killed Francis while in a sudden quarrel or heat of passion, and recklessly with extreme disregard for human life."
