BILLINGS -

The 5th Big Sky Honor Flight took off from Billings Logan International Airport early Sunday morning. Greeters stretched through the airport shaking hands, holding signs and flags and thanking the World War Two vets for what they did.

The 81 vets then toured the Lincoln, Korean and Vietnam Memorials. Father's Day added an extra emotional layer as several vets are accompanied on the trip by one of their children or are meeting them there. And some 3,000 roses were laid against the Vietnam Memorial Sunday morning in a Father's Day ceremony, many with personal notes to Dad from the children of fallen warriors.

On Monday the vets will visit their memorial as well as Arlington National Cemetery, the Iwo Jima Memorial and the FDR Memorial. One of the veterans on the flight says this is the first time he's been on a commercial plane since he was about four or five. The 5th Big Sky Honor Flight returns to Billings Monday night. If you're in the area and would like to welcome the veterans home you're welcome to do so. You're asked to be at the airport before 8:30pm. There will be free parking and a shuttle service will be provided from the far west end parking area.
