Horses Play Soccer

BILLINGS -

We have seen people play soccer. It is a sport for many kids here in the Magic City. However, have you seen horses take part in this internationally popular game?

We are not kidding when we say the Eastern Montana Appaloosa Horse Club is a sponsor of the Montana Equine Soccer League. The game is very much like soccer, with the horses playing instead of humans.

A human being does ride the horses, however.

Organizers said the game was started as a cheap alternative to cow-related events.

"Some horses just absolutely despise the ball and won't go near it, and will be scared of it forever. Other horses walk up to the ball like they own it. I've seen them lay their whole bodies on it, wrestle with it, bite it. It's their new toy," said Chelsea Picchioni with the Horse Club. She went on to say that a couple of other Montana cities are forming similar soccer clubs.
