Veterans Honored at Memorial Day Ceremonies

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS -

It's a time when Americans throughout the country indulge in picnics and barbecues.

But today is set aside to remember and honor the fallen that have served our country. The sun was shining as crowds of Billings community members arrived at the Mountview Cemetery to remember the men and women who serve and are serving. Army operations Non- Commissioned Officer Jeff Lindell returned from serving in Afghanistan nearly three months ago. He says he's honored to see some of the veterans whom have blazed the trail ahead for defending the United States.

"I made a promise to myself that I would be one of those many soldiers that would stand at that gate for as long as I possibly could," says Lindell.

As heroes were remembered during the ceremony, speakers encouraged families to foster a sense of pride in their children to continue to respect Memorial Day. And when the weather took a turn for the worse at the Yellowstone County Veterans Cemetery, it didn't dampen the spirits of the Laurel community, including Vietnam-era veteran Larry McGovern.

"Any day that I can acknowledge those who served for my country is a great day for me," says McGovern.

McGovern says it's important to remember our fallen troops not just for one day, but every day.

"Just be proud and continue to do it. No matter what the weather," says McGovern.

Other Memorial Day ceremonies included those at Riverside Cemetery, Veterans Park, Terrace Gardens, Sunset Memorial Gardens, and Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park.
