Billings Man Pays Tribute to Veterans

BILLINGS -

This Memorial Day weekend, Burt Gigoux, who is part of the Eugene Sara Detachment and on the Board for Honor Flight, spent this Saturday laying flags at the Riverside Cemetery in the Heights to remember Veterans for the 13th consecutive year.

Gigoux started 12 years ago when he discovered Veterans were laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery. After much research, he was able to get the cemetery renovated, which included a flag pole and headstones for those who've passed. Gigoux says laying flags on the Veterans' memorials has become a fond tradition.

"Some of these guys are heroes, and a lot of them are a lot older than me so that makes them my heroes. And, it's just a privilege to recognize them. It was a long time coming and it was a privilege to be the one to do this. I hope to pass it on one year," says Gigoux.

If you'd like to lay flags and take part to honor Veterans this holiday weekend, you can visit the Mountview Cemetery Sunday morning at 8:30 am on Central Avenue.
