ZooSchool Graduation

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS -

Some say a school can be a zoo, but an actual pre-school located at a zoo had a very special graduation Wednesday.

Wednesday marks the seventh year ZooSchool at ZooMontana graduated pre-school students. 11 kids donned their caps and gowns for the event, with another 13 on Thursday. ZooSchool Teacher Mavis Thompson said besides learning the usual skills kids learn in class, they also got to get close to zoo staff.

"They get to talk to the zookeepers. The zookeepers come into the classroom and talk to the children. They even take the kids out and do behind the scenes with the kids. Everytime they do that kind of stuff, I tell the kids they're probably the only children in billings that get to do it." said Thompson.

ZooSchool is open to parents who are members of the Billings-based zoo. To learn more, click on the "Connections" link above.

Streets that run for several blocks, without a single street light. It is a dark reality many residents throughout the Magic City face when the sun goes down. Leo Robinson lives on Monad Rd., east of 24th Street. He said if street lights were placed on Monad, safety for everyone would improve. Terry Smith, City Traffic Engineer, said the city is more than willing to work with anyone, on any street, which lacks street lights.
