Radio Stations Raise Money for Big Sky Honor Flight
BILLINGS, Mont. -
Big Sky Honor Flight has already sent three trips of veterans to the nation's capital to see the World War Two memorial. Now, with some help from local radio stations, more vets can go on the next trip.
"Livin Large Larry" and Townsquare Media raised and donated more than $6,000 through events like Freezin' for a Reason and the Cold Open pub crawl. Enough money was raised at both events to pay for 6 vets on the trip. Larry said the veterans on the trips have been incredibly appreciative of how much the community has rallied behind them. The vets also said the trip provides closure for them.
"I've talked to many of the vets after the flight, before the flight, this is so rewarding for them. And they're not afraid to say, "this is a great ending chapter of my life,"" said "Livin Large Larry."
The next Big Sky Honor Flight leaves May 19th.
Yellowstone County Commissioner Bill Kennedy said the May flight is completely funded, but they still have at least $100,000 to raise for the June flight.
Kennedy said 91 veterans are signed up for the flight next month.
