BUTTE, Mont. (AP) — Butte High boys' basketball coach John Thatcher has announced his retirement after 10 seasons.

Thatcher tried to resign the previous two seasons as well, but school officials talked him in to coming back. He told the school his decision was final on Thursday.

Thatcher says his son moved to Wisconsin and he wants to be able to travel to see his grandchildren.

In Thatcher's 10 seasons, Butte High posted a 114-108 record. From 2004-2008, the Bulldogs posted an 81-34 record. Thatcher's teams were state runners-up in 2004 and 2007, finished third in 2006 and fourth in 2005.

Thatcher will continue to work for the school district's circulation department, where he runs the elementary sports programs.
