Bozeman High names new girls' basketball coach

BOZEMAN - The Bozeman High athletics director is recommending that Brad Ruston return as girls' basketball coach.

Ruston was head coach for the Hawks from 1989 to 1998, leading the team to three state championships. He was an assistant to boys' coach Mike Cole from 1999-2007. Ruston was an assistant to outgoing girls' coach Brooke Svendsen during the 2007-08 season. Svendsen is moving to Colorado, where her husband has taken a job.

The school board must approve Ruston's appointment at a meeting next Monday. Ruston takes over a program that finished third at state last season after winning the prior two Class AA championships. The Hawks are losing seven seniors, including all five starters.
