Kalispell wrestling coach resigns

By The Associated Press

KALISPELL - A four-time winner of the Montana Wrestling Coach of the Year award is resigning as the coach at Flathead High School in Kalispell.

Jeff Thompson finished his eight seasons with a record of 126-19. The Braves won their first state wrestling title under Thompson in 2004, and have won state championships each of the last three seasons. Amateur Wrestling News ranks Flathead 10th nationally.

Thompson submitted a letter of resignation on Monday, saying he needs to spend more time with his wife and four children, 3-year-old twin sons and daughters ages 5 and 7.

Assistant coach Jeff Anderson, a former Flathead head coach and the 2006 national assistant coach of the year, also announced his resignation. Flathead activities director Frank Jobe says a search for Thompson's replacement will begin immediately.
