Carpenter agrees to free-agent deal with Dolphins

By The Associated Press

HELENA - Former University of Montana kicker Dan Carpenter has agreed to a free-agent contract with the Miami Dolphins.

The deal came together shortly after the NFL draft on Sunday. Carpenter is from Helena and played football for Montana the past four seasons. He is the career leading scorer in the history of the Football Championship Series. Carpenter racked up 413 points. He also is the career leader in field goals made in the FCS, with 75.

Carpenter says he looks forward to experiencing Miami's warmth in place of Montana's chill. Last week, he worked out with Dolphins' assistant special teams coach Steve Hoffman in Missoula.
