Florence boys' basketball coach rehired after outcry

FLORENCE - The Florence boys' basketball coach and athletics director was rehired, after a show of public support at a school board hearing Monday night.

The board voted 3-2 last week not to renew the contract of Sam Baerlocher, who has worked at the school for 25 years. Board members would not comment on the reasons for the decision.

On Monday, about 50 students excused themselves from school to walk a picket line against the board's decision. After a two-hour meeting Monday night, the board reversed its decision.
