CHEYENNE, WYOMING - Wyoming House Speaker Colin Simpson is kicking off his campaign for governor.

Simpson formally announced he's seeking the Republican Party nomination for governor Thursday morning at the State Capitol in Cheyenne. He planned similar announcements in Casper and Cody.

Simpson says his legislative experience and knowledge of state finances will help him meet the challenges facing the state. He's a lawyer in private practice in Cody and is the son of former U.S. Sen. Alan Simpson of Wyoming.

Simpson joins a crowded Republican field. Already running are State Auditor Rita Meyer; Ron Micheli, a former state legislator and former head of the state agricultural department; and Matt Mead, a former U.S. attorney for Wyoming.
