RAWLINS, WYOMING - The Wyoming Highway Patrol says three jewelry heist suspects are in custody thanks to help from New York City Police detectives tracking a stolen rental car with a GPS device.

The Wyoming troopers were alerted to watch for the car, because the NYPD said it had been stolen from a car rental agency and was believed to be in the Rawlins region. The rental company had the car equipped with a GPS tracking device.

Wyoming Highway Patrol officers spotted the car the night of March 8 and arrested the occupants. The troopers say that during a search of the vehicle, they found $37,000 of jewelry stolen in Rock Springs, as well as laptop computers, iPods and digital cameras.

The men were arraigned in Wyoming circuit court on Thursday.
