CHEYENNE, WYOMING - Wyoming House Speaker Colin Simpson says he will run for governor.

Simpson says he will launch his campaign on Thursday with events in Cheyenne, Casper and Cody. He declines to give any details of his campaign platform before Thursday's announcement.

Simpson joins a crowded field seeking the Republican Party nomination in the governor's race. Already running are State Auditor Rita Meyer, Ron Micheli, a former state legislator and former head of the state agricultural department and Matt Mead, a former U.S. attorney for Wyoming.

The Northern Wyoming Daily News previously has reported that Simpson says he would not seek re-election to the Wyoming House. Simpson is the son of former U.S. Sen. Alan Simpson of Wyoming.
