Law sets age rules for Wyoming tanning salons

CHEYENNE, WYOMING - A new Wyoming law requires parental consent for people 18 or younger before they're allowed to soak in ultraviolet rays at a tanning salon.

Gov. Dave Freudenthal signed a bill last week making it a misdemeanor violation to allow a child under 15 to use an ultraviolet tanning device unless their parent consents in writing and is present during the tanning.

The law taking effect in July also requires that teenagers between 15 and 18 must have written consent from their parent or legal guardian before being allowed to use an ultraviolet tanning device.

Democratic State Rep. Lori Millin of Cheyenne sponsored the legislation. She has said she was surprised at the lack of tanning regulation.
