CHEYENNE, WYOMING - A Big Horn County rancher has been appointed to the U.S. Department of Agriculture Cattlemen's Beef Promotion and Research Board.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the appointment of Spencer Ellis this week. The 106-member board works with other groups to promote American beef, research, consumer information, industry information, foreign marketing and producer communications.

The board also oversees the collection of $1-per-head on all cattle sold in the United States, and $1-per-head equivalent on imported cattle, beef and beef products.

Ellis says he is replacing Dianne Kirkbride of the Cheyenne area on the national board. Ellis is president of the Wyoming Beef Council and former president of the Wyoming Board of Agriculture.
