JACKSON, WYOMING - A 25-year-old Jackson man has pleaded not guilty to an aggravated assault and battery charge.

Prosecutors say Joshua Anders Rae beat Wilson resident Brent Owen so badly that Owen sustained 27 facial fractures and bleeding on the brain and had to spend about three weeks in the hospital.

Police say the beating happened early Nov. 28 in the alley behind a local bar.

Ninth District Judge Nancy Guthrie accepted Rae's plea on Thursday and said he could travel to Idaho for a wedding and to Haiti for a month with a church group while awaiting trial.

If convicted, Rae faces up to 10 years in prison.
