GILLETTE, WYOMING - A 40-year-old man has been sentenced to three to seven years in prison for stealing a semi-truck in Gillette and leading deputies on a high-speed chase through two counties.

David L. Dykes also was ordered to pay nearly $13,700 in restitution. Wednesday's sentence came two months after Dykes pleaded guilty to felony larceny as part of a plea deal.

According to police, in August 2008, Dykes stole a semi-truck in Gillette. Dykes then led police on a chase through Johnson and Natrona counties, which ended after officers spiked the tires. Dykes' attorney, Micheal Shoumaker, says his client stole the semi on a suicidal impulse.

Dykes was on parole for a prior larceny conviction when he stole the semi.
