CHEYENNE, Wyo. - U.S. Rep. Cynthia Lummis is supporting a bill that would cut salaries for members of Congress by 5%.

The Wyoming Republican says it's time "for members of Congress to stand shoulder to shoulder with the American people."

Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, a Democrat from Arizona, is sponsoring the bill. It would institute the 5 percent pay cut for all senators and representatives starting next January. It would also block any automatic congressional pay increase for 2012.

Rank-and-file members of the House and Senate make $174,000 a year.

Lummis supported Congress' decision last year to turn down the automatic pay raises they would have received this year.
