Wasatch curtails lease application in Converse Co.

CASPER, WYOMING - The developer of a possible wind farm in Converse County that spurred debate about wind development in the northern Laramie Range has curtailed its application to lease state trust lands.

Utah-based Wasatch Wind says it submitted a revised application to the Office of State Lands and Investments last week. The revised application includes about 3,000 acres in the Glenrock and Box Elder areas, down from about 7,300 acres included in the original application.

John Aubrecht, senior vice president of development for Wasatch Wind, says the Duncan Ranch portion of the lease application was removed after community members voiced concern about development in the area.

Ken Lay of the Northern Laramie Range Alliance welcomes Wasatch's decision but says it doesn't address the company's continuing efforts to build in the Boxelder/Morman Canyon area of the Northern Laramie Range.
