CHEYENNE, WYOMING - Wyoming's chief justice has a sarcastic response to newspaper editorials criticizing a proposal to redact certain information from public court records.

Chief Justice Barton Voigt told lawmakers in his annual State of the Judiciary speech Monday to mail him their Social Security numbers, bank account numbers and other sensitive information. He suggested sarcastically that lawmakers wouldn't mind seeing the information on the state Supreme Court Web site.

Recent editorials have criticized proposed rules that would require clerks to redact sensitive and not-so-sensitive information such as birthdates from court records. Voigt says the intent is to prevent identity theft, but newspapers worry about being able to identify people accurately.
