CHEYENNE, WYOMING - The Wyoming Legislature's Joint Interim Revenue Committee has approved a bill that would make records of home sales open to the public.

Department of Revenue Administrator Marvin Applequist says homeowners want to see the home sales information used for property tax assessments to make sure they're being treated fairly.

Laramie County Assessor Brenda Arnold says under the current system, homeowners who challenge their assessments get 30 days to see only the five homes their home is being compared to for the appraisal. They only get more information if they move forward with the challenge. Arnold says if they're just given good information earlier in the process, they may not push the challenges as far.
