LANDER, WYOMING - A former Pavillion town clerk has been fined $1,000 for trying to cash checks she wrote to herself from the town under the guise of a severance payment.

District Judge Norman E. Young this week also ordered that 49-year-old Susan Taylor serve three years of probation for felony attempted larceny and misdemeanor official misconduct.

Last August, Taylor entered pleas that allowed her to admit guilt while continuing to maintain her innocence. Charging documents say Taylor wrote herself two checks from the town worth more than $6,000 each after she was fired by town leaders in December 2007.
