CODY, WYOMING - The Park County Commission has approved giving the Sleeping Giant Ski Area an additional $38,000 of federal forest reserve money.

But the commission denied a separate $102,000 request for money out of county coffers, saying they didn't feel comfortable helping a private business with general fund money. Sleeping Giant is located within the Shoshone National Forest just a few miles east of Yellowstone's East Entrance.

It plans to use the $38,000 to clear unhealthy and dead trees on the mountain and further establish a fire break at the head of the valley. The county commission had previously given the area $50,000 from their forest reserve funds.

A nonprofit group is reopening the slope, which has been closed since 2004.
