GILLETTE, WYOMING - Gillette is spending $4.5 million to re-drill five city water wells to boost their water production.

City officials say the five wells are among 15 wells that pump water from the Fort Union aquifer. The project is intended to increase the city's water supply while it builds a new pipeline to carry water to Gillette from wells north of Moorcroft.

City Administrator Mike Muirhead says re-drilling the wells should be done by February. He says the project should boost the aged wells production from about 65 gallons each per minute to about 350 gallons each per minute.
