TORRINGTON, WYOMING - Officials in the eastern Wyoming town of Torrington say they face a housing shortage as some 350 new prison employees head to the region over the next few months.

More than 350 employees are being hired by the Wyoming Department of Corrections to run the 720-bed Wyoming Medium Corrections Institution that opens in January. Torrington has a population of just under 7,000.

Cheryl Yeik is in the real estate business and chairs the Downtown Neighbors Committee that welcomes the new prison employees and their families to Torrington. She says the city is short on rentals and housing is tight.
