DENVER, CO - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has extended the period for the public to comment on its proposal to remove the gray wolf from the federal list of threatened and endangered species in northern Rocky Mountain states. Comments can be submitted until the close of business May ninth.
In addition, the agency announced it would hold a public meeting in Cody on April 19th. U.S. Representative Barbara Cubin had asked for another meeting in northwestern Wyoming so people there also could comment.
The Fish and Wildlife Service proposal lays the groundwork for state-managed wolf plans in Idaho and Montana. Wyoming was working on a management plan suitable to federal officials.
Public hearings on the federal proposal have been held in Cheyenne; Salt Lake City; Helena, Montana; Boise, Idaho; Pendleton, Oregon; and Spokane, Washington.
