LARAMIE, WYOMING - Laramie residents may see their utility bills rise to pay for $85 million worth of expansions and updates to the water and sewer systems.

Proposals before the City Council would spread the increases out over four years.

Base water rates for residents with a three-quarter-inch meter would rise from the current rate of about $18 a month to $22.60 in 2013. The cost of consuming water over the base amount would also rise.

Sewer rates would rise from about $10 a month to $17.60 in 2013.

The proposals face three readings before the City Council before they are enacted. A public hearing is planned in July.
