Storm causes estimated $4M damage in Casper

CASPER, WYOMING - Officials in Casper say Friday's storm caused at least $4 million in damage and they're asking the state to help pay for repairs.

Natrona County commission chairman Rob Henry and Casper mayor Kenye Schlager sent a letter to Gov. Dave Freudenthal on Saturday asking him to use his emergency fund and other sources to help.

They said high winds and heavy rain caused about $2 million in damage each to county and city property, including the Hall of Justice, the sheriff's office and Wyoming Medical Center. Parks and streets were also damaged.

In addition, more than 125 people have reported damage to homes and businesses. Just over 2 inches of rain fell in downtown Casper. Police say no one was injured.
