Fontenelle, Flaming Gorge reservoirs filling up

ROCK SPRINGS, WYOMING - Reservoirs on the Green River in southwest Wyoming are filling up to their normal levels for the first time in a decade.

Bureau of Reclamation hydrologic engineer Rick Clayton says the Fontenelle Reservoir has been full for a couple of weeks, and Flaming Gorge Reservoir is rising about 4 to 6 inches per day.

Clayton says the easing of a decade-long drought is improving the water supply in the Green River basin.

The bureau has been releasing water downstream from Fontenelle, which is contributing to the rise in Flaming Gorge.

Clayton says the amount of water is creating no problems. On the contrary, he says the water is helping build up water storage for future droughts while creating better opportunities for recreation and the generation hydroelectric power.
