GREEN RIVER, WYOMING - A Colorado fisherman has set a new Wyoming kokanee salmon record with his recent catch at Flaming Gorge Reservoir.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department says Brian Ekx of Evans, Colo., caught the trophy fish this month during the Buckboard Marina Fishing Classic.

The trophy fish weighed 6.26 pounds and beat the old record of 6.04 pounds, which had stood since 2002.

Ekx was fishing specifically for kokanee using a small spoon called the Sockeye Slammer. Ekx says he pans to have the 24-inch fish mounted.

Flaming Gorge is also the source of other state fishing records. Game and Fish officials say those include a 25-pound, 13-ounce brown trout, a 50-pound lake trout, a 5.96-pound smallmouth bass and a 27.99-pound channel catfish.
