CHEYENNE, WYOMING - The Wyoming State Penitentiary plans to offer in-house testing for inmates interested in receiving their general equivalency diplomas.

Melinda Brazzale is spokeswoman for the Wyoming Department of Corrections. She says that the department hasn't offered in-house GED testing since 2001. She says the education staff at the penitentiary in Rawlins has worked to get the institution certified to offer the tests again.

Officials say testing in-house will save money and make it easier for inmates. Officials say that inmates who have received their GED or high school diploma are less likely to return to prison upon their release.
