RAWLINS, WYOMING - The historic Old Pen in Rawlins is nearly done replacing worn roofs.

New roofs have been installed on all but one of the buildings that make up the former state penitentiary. Old Pen Director Tina Hill says the effort began in the late 1990s after the Old Pen received money from a special purpose tax.

The Old Pen is now asking for bids to replace the leaky roof atop the gift shop and museum, which are in a building that date from the 1960s. Hill says putting new roofs on the prison-turned-tourist attraction has been a top priority to preserve the prison.
