CASPER, WYOMING - The troubled national housing market may be affecting Wyoming. The state Economic Analysis Division said home prices in Wyoming increased by only 0.3% from fourth quarter of 2007 through the first quarter of 2008.

That is the lowest quarterly price increase since the third quarter of 1999. Building permits and existing home sales in Wyoming also were off when compared to first quarter 2007.

Senior Economist Wenlin Liu said the troubled national housing picture and associated credit crunch could be making people more cautious about buying. Even so, the state's foreclosure rate remained among the lowest in the nation.
