CHEYENNE, WYOMING - A wall where youths would be allowed to freely paint graffiti is one proposal for fighting illegal graffiti in Cheyenne.

A focus group has been brainstorming ideas for tackling Cheyenne's graffiti problem. The group's top suggestion is to set up cameras and sensor lighting around places that are likely to get hit with graffiti.

Another idea is a silent witness line with rewards for people who report graffiti in progress. The proposed graffiti wall would be in place for a year. City officials would monitor the wall while tracking amounts of graffiti elsewhere in town.

i live in australia where graffiti is very common in almost all areas. most local authorities have chosen to put legally designated spots for people to practice "aerosol art". This approach has drastically reduced the amount of illegal graffiti occurring in these areas and also displays the art form in a much more positive way. In some areas of Australia local communities and councils commission local aerosol artists to do large murals on walls or private property that were previously plagued by ugly illegal graffiti. Please realise that there are responsible people out there that will embrace such projects. thankyou
