Gunbarrel Fire Grows

CODY, WYOMING - The Gunbarrel Fire burning east of Yellowstone National Park has grown to more than 7 square miles in the North Absaroka Wilderness of the Shoshone National Forest.

Fire management officials say lookouts are monitoring the fire's southern edge, which has come within a mile of the nearest structures. The fire management team expected better weather conditions on Thursday after dealing with very windy, hot and dry weather on Wednesday.

Crews say the fire is generally burning away from the nearest structures, which are the North Fork of the Shoshone River. The 4,700-acre fire is burning about 40 miles west of Cody.

Also Thursday, the New Fork Lakes Fire continued burning 19 miles north of Pinedale. The fire has grown to nearly 4 square miles and is burning into the Bridger Wilderness area of the Bridger-Teton National Forest.

Pray for the firefighters and give them strength to battle those blazes! The smoke is awful in Cody, Powell and all over the BigHorn Basin, I can't imagine being in it and fighting fire! Stay safe everyone!
