CHEYENNE, WYOMING - The City of Cheyenne is considering sending municipal trash south for disposal at a landfill in Ault, Colorado.

Cheyenne's Finance Committee voted 2-1 on Monday to approve a five-year contract with Waste Management Disposal Services of Colorado. Cheyenne Public Works Manager Mike Abel says the deal would amount to about $4.8 million over the life of the contract. It calls for Cheyenne to pay $395 for each trailer load of trash disposed of in the landfill, west of Fort Collins.

The city's existing landfill on Happy Jack Road is about four years away from reaching capacity. The full city council is scheduled to consider the contract at its May 26 meeting.
