RAWLINS, WYOMING - Authorities in the southern Wyoming town of Baggs are bracing for possible flooding along the Little Snake River.

Larry Hicks of the Little Snake River Conservation District says the river reached flood stage on Monday and could rise another foot-and-a-half. That would put the river over its banks and into town. Carbon County Emergency Manager Harold Newbrough says the latest flood predictions would impact about 50 to 75 homes, mostly causing flooded basements and yards.

Baggs Mayor Linda Corners says she has requested that Gov. Dave Freudenthal active the National Guard, which would enable guardsmen to help place sandbags along the river. The National Weather Service says a flood warning for the Little Snake Valley is expected to continue for as long as warm weather keeps melting mountain snowpack or if it rains.
