Gasoline prices affect Wyoming businesses

CASPER, WYOMING - The high cost of gasoline and diesel fuel are putting stress on different kinds of businesses around Wyoming. A Domino's Pizza store in Casper is thinking about changing the way it compensates delivery drivers for gas.

Manager Tara Scott says switching over to a sliding scale instead of a per-mile scale could nearly double the amount that her drivers are paid for gas. J.B. Stuart works at Stuart and Son Trucking in Casper. Stuart says five years ago, fuel accounted for about 25% of his overhead. Now that portion of costs is up to 33%.

A University of Wyoming economist, Rob Godby, says that despite politicians' calls for immediate action, there's really very little they can do to bring down prices in the short term. Godby says gasoline prices are likely to reach $4 a gallon by the end of summer.
