CHEYENNE, WYOMING - Gov. Dave Freudenthal says he's concerned about how high fuel prices will affect the nation's economy.

Freudenthal said in his weekly news conference Wednesday that in the past, declining energy prices have enabled the U.S. to climb out of recessions.

The U.S. technically isn't in a recession right now, but Freudenthal isn't so sure that there will be lower energy prices to lift the country out of its current economic doldrums. He said oil prices around $80 a barrel are better for the economy than the current price of around $120 a barrel. He said prices that high create a ripple effect, increasing costs for airlines, small businesses and consumers.
