Laramie coroner wants morgue out of tire shop

LARAMIE, WYOMING - Laramie County Coroner Marty Luna wants to get his morgue out of a Quonset hut that doubles as a tire shop for county vehicles.

The morgue cooler has been in the shed for the past few years. Luna doesn't want to bring relatives to the shop to identify next of kin - he uses photos to do that. Also, mechanics in the shop sometimes are subjected to unpleasant odors. Luna says a much better place for the morgue would be a local hospital. He says he's heard that space could become available soon at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center-East, although Luna says he hasn't spoken yet with the hospital board about moving the morgue there.

Hospital officials say there are no plans right now to move the morgue to the hospital.
