Teton County considers subdivision moratorium

JACKSON, WYOMING - Teton County commissioners are considering a moratorium on new subdivisions.

That's after the county received a wave of development applications that would result in more than 1,100 new homes south of Jackson. Commissioners say they want to approach the development proposals fairly while Teton County and Jackson rewrite their joint development plan.

Local officials have long tried to regulate development to limit sprawl and preserve open space while assuring that affordable housing remains available in an expensive home market.

The last subdivision moratorium in 1993 lasted nearly a year while a previous development plan was being written.
