CODY, WYOMING - Health officials in Cody are battling rumors and concerns after a teenager died of meningitis and another case of the contagious form of the disease this winter.

Some parents have raised concerns about the sanitary conditions at Cody High School. However, Park County Health Officer Dr. Charles Jamieson assures the public that Cody High School is in compliance with recommended hygienic practices.

Jamieson says the two cases of meningitis were unrelated and involved different forms of the disease. He said the case that resulted in the death of a Cody teenager this past weekend was due to a severe case of sinusitis that aggressively attacked the young man's immune system and resulted in a non-contagious form of meningitis.
