Goodenough announces Senate bid against Barrasso

CHEYENNE, WYOMING - Casper city councilman and former state Senator Keith Goodenough has announced that he'll seek the Democratic nomination to run against Republican U.S. Senator John Barrasso this fall.

Goodenough says he's running largely because of how Barrasso, who is also a former state senator, worked against him during Goodenough's unsuccessful Wyoming Senate re-election bid in 2004. Goodenough is the first Democrat in Wyoming to formally announce a bid for U.S. Senate this year.

Barrasso was appointed to his seat last year to replace Republican Senator Craig Thomas, who died of leukemia. Barrasso hasn't formally announced that he'll run but has said since his appointment that he planned to seek election this year.

A spokesman for the Barrasso campaign says it's "awfully early" in the campaign season for attack politics. He says Barrasso will continue working hard to put Wyoming first in the U.S. Senate. Goodenough served in the Wyoming House from 1988-1992 and in the Senate from 1994-2004.

Revenge, Mr. Goodenough? What a great reason to run for the U.S. Senate! At least now we understand that this is all about "you" and NOT about what you will do for America . . .
