CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — An inspector general report found that a U.S. Bureau of Land Management official in Wyoming failed to report free dinners and other special treatment from the beneficiary of a public-private land exchange.

The report focuses on Casper Field Office Manager James Murkin, who oversaw a land exchange involving prominent businessman Neil McMurry.

The group Project on Government Oversight says it recently obtained a copy of the 2009 report with names redacted. The group and others interviewed by The Associated Press says the report shows Murkin facilitated an important meeting between McMurry and the BLM on the land exchange.

A former BLM geologist says the deal gave McMurry valuable limestone deposits.

The BLM promoted Murkin to a Washington, D.C., job and he recently retired. He has no phone listing in the Washington, D.C., area or Wyoming.
